A composition by Yuko Asada, Milky Way is a program music inspired by a Japanese festival called Tanabata, which originated from a Chinese folklore. This mixed meter piece showcases the voices of two main characters (Hikoboshi and Orihime) from the story, which are indicated in melody lines that switch between higher and lower voices. “I wanted to write a chamber piece for a steel ensemble to explore the sensitivity and beauty of the instrument.”
